Newcastle Jets will play three local National Premier Leagues (NPL) outfits at their home grounds in the lead up to the Club’s Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 clash with Adelaide United on Wednesday 9 August 2017.
Weston Workers Bears FC, Broadmeadow Magic FC and Hamilton Olympic FC will each receive a visit from the Jets for friendly fixtures over the coming weeks.
Ernie Merrick’s charges will tackle the Bears at Rockwell Automation Park on Tuesday 11 July, before heading to Magic Park on Wednesday 19 July to battle Broadmeadow.
On Wednesday 2 August Newcastle will face Hamilton at Darling Street Oval.
All three local friendlies will kick-off at 7:00pm with admission at each venue to be determined by the host Club.
Newcastle Jets Head Coach Ernie Merrick said that the games will provide a good opportunity for the Club to engage with the local community while also helping to prepare the players for the season ahead.
“These games represent a great chance for our Members and fans to see the team live early in pre-season so we hope strong numbers come out for each match,” Merrick said.
“I am looking forward to observing the local NPL players and hopefully the lads from Weston, Broadmeadow and Hamilton are excited by the opportunity also, because you never know when a player with potential may pop up.”
“It’s important for us to start playing competitive friendlies against local sides that are match fit and eager to impress,” he said.
Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer Lawrie McKinna thanked the local Clubs for helping to provide valuable preparation for the team leading into its Westfield FFA Cup and Hyundai A-League campaigns.
“Each game will provide some of the best players in the local area with the opportunity to show their abilities against a professional team,” McKinna said. “This will also highlight the local NPL, so we thank the Clubs for being keen to work with us.”
Further friendly matches against local NPL clubs will be scheduled and announced dependent on the Jets’ 2017 Westfield FFA Cup fortunes.
Additionally, Newcastle Jets can confirm that the Club has entered into an arrangement with BarTV Sports to live stream each of the NPL friendlies.
Fans unable to attend the fixtures in person will be available to view the games live via the Jets’ official Facebook page and website, plus the BarTV Sports Facebook page.
BarTV Sports Chief Executive Officer, Josh Mason, said: “BarTV Sports is excited to be part of the Newcastle Jets trial matches against the local NPL sides. Having covered the entire NPL competition this year this builds on the good work that the teams are doing.”
