Ernie Merrick has today added former Everton FC youth product Jake Adelson to his squad on a two-season Hyundai A-League contract.
21-year-old Adelson is a versatile right-sided player who will add depth to the Club’s first team roster in defence and attack.
Adelson, who has featured for the Australian U20 side in the past, has spent the past month on trial with the Club.
He featured for the Jets in a behind closed doors training match against his former team Central Coast Mariners today, and also demonstrated his ability in local friendlies against Weston FC and Broadmeadow FC over the past fortnight.
Newcastle Jets Head Coach Merrick said he’s been impressed with Adelson throughout his trial period with the Club.
“Jake is technically very good and has terrific speed,” Merrick said.
“He plays a very attacking fullback type role which is what we need at the Jets.”
“He has to learn the structure of our defence over the pre-season, and I am sure he will become a core member of the squad,” he said.
