Newcastle Jets sign American defender Emily Garnier

Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce the signing of American defender Emily Garnier for the 2022/2023 season.

26-year-old Garnier joins the Jets from National Women’s Soccer League side Chicago Red Stars.

Garnier has previously played for European sides Empoli FC, Fortuna Hjørring and Napoli Femminile.

Coach Ash Wilson is stoked to have a player of Emily’s calibre and experience join the squad for the coming season.

“I’m very excited to have Emily coming into our squad. She is an experienced defender who has applied her trade in Denmark and Italy after a successful college career, including champions league experience with Fortuna Hjørring. She recently moved from Napoli to Chicago Red Stars as a national team replacement again highlighting the knowledge and experience she will bring into this team.

I was immediately impressed with her presence on the field as well as her passing range, quality on the ball and defensive efforts. When I spoke to her it was clear that she was the right fit for Newcastle. She is down to earth, has a drive to work hard and contribute to a positive culture. Her presence in the backline will give us further stability and she has the potential to create attacking threats for us as well. I cant wait for her to connect with the team and start working with her.”

Garnier is excited to be linking up with the Jets ahead of the new season.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the team and playing some good football. I’ve heard some really good things about the city and the people there and can’t wait to get going.

I’ll bring what I’ve learned with me from previous experiences and absorb all I can from my teammates to continue to develop and contribute as much as possible to the team. I’m honoured and excited to represent this Club.”
