Newcastle Jets confirm player transfer movement

Newcastle Jets can confirm that late in the transfer window period it was agreed to allow defender James McGarry to be released so that he could take up an opportunity for the balance of this year and ongoing with another Club in the A-League.

The 24-year-old joined the Jets at the beginning of the season, making 10 appearances, and scoring one goal.

The Newcastle Jets would like to thank James McGarry for his time at the club this season and wish him well in the future.

With the departure of McGarry, the Club has been able to lock in two recruits for next season, Phillip Cancar and Thomas Aquilina.

Shane Mattiske said, “These two players will bring real strength to the Club’s squad for next year and, through negotiation, the Club was able to bring them in through the transfer window to join the squad immediately.”

In relation to the Women’s A-League Squad, the Club can confirm that discussions with the Chicago Red Stars have resulted in the Jets agreeing to allow Sarah Griffith to return to the US to prepare for the upcoming season after she completes the next two Jets matches against Western United and Perth Glory.

Sarah Griffith said “Words can’t express how grateful I am for my time In Newcastle! The people, community, and club have been beyond welcoming and supportive. A big thank you to this amazing group of girls who have quickly become lifelong friends.
I’m now switching to focus on the upcoming season with the Red Stars.”
