Newcastle Jets confirm player movement update

The Newcastle Jets can confirm that the Club has agreed to a transfer that will see Jaushua Sotirio depart the club to take up an overseas opportunity in Asia.

Sotirio, who joined the Jets last season, played 23 matches for the club in the 2022/23 season, scoring three goals. 

The Newcastle Jets would like to wish Jaushua and his family all the best for the future and thank him for his commitment to this Club and this community over the past season.

The club can also confirm that former Academy player and Newcastle local, Jacob Dowse will return to the club on a two-year deal.

Dowse, who played for South Cardiff Football Club as a junior, joins the Newcastle Jets from Perth Glory where he played during the 2022/23 season.

Dowse, made a total of 17 appearances this season, registering five assists.

Dowse, who has previously spent time playing for Broadmeadow Magic is excited to be joining the club he grew up supporting as a child.

“I can’t wait to get back to Newcastle and get started. I’m absolutely buzzing!

“This is the team I grew up supporting being a young boy from Newcastle, and I can’t wait to put on the gold jersey for the first time.”

The Newcastle Jets are also delighted to welcome back Lucas Mauragis after spending the 2022/23 season on loan at the Wellington Phoenix.

Mauragis gained crucial playing experience and will return to the club to further strengthen Arthur Papas’ side for the 2023/24 season.

Mauragis has been selected for the Olyroos squad which will take part in the prestigious Maurice Revello Tournament in France next month.

Mauragis will assemble at the AIS European training centre in Varese, Italy, towards the end of the month before heading to France where Australia will play four matches from June 6th – 18th.
