Newcastle Jets confirm A-League Men departures

Newcastle Jets have confirmed the departure of four Isuzu Ute A-League players.

Angus Thurgate, Beka Mikeltadze, Manabu Saitō and Mohamed Al-Taay will depart the club following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.

Thurgate, has made a total of 125 appearances across all competitions for the Club, scoring 11 goals.

Mikeltadze made a total of 50 appearances for the Jets across all competitions, scoring 19 goals.

Japanese international Saitō joined the Jets this season and made a total of eight appearances in the A-League this season, scoring one goal.

Midfielder Al-Taay joined the Jets in 2021 and has made a total of 30 appearances across all competitions for the Jets.

Newcastle Jets Executive Chairman Shane Mattiske said “The Club wants to thank Angus, Beka, Manabu, and Mo for their significant contribution and we wish them all the best for the next chapter in their careers.

“In relation to Angus, we are really disappointed to lose an important local player despite having worked hard to ensure he stays at this Club.

“We felt that we made a very strong offer to Angus to stay here at the Jets. Our offer would have seen him become one of the club’s highest earners, however, we understand that his focus is on international opportunities, and if these don’t come in the short term, the ability to experience living in one of Australia’s big cities. Ultimately, we have to respect his decision.”
