Newcastle about to experience World Cup fever

The Jets have taken the time out to promote the World Cup livesite at Wheeler Place on Hunter Street.

Newcastle is set to be gripped by the world-s largest sporting event once again when the 2010 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 12.

Castle Acoustic Productions, in association with Juicy Beans Cafe, will be beaming the Qantas Socceroos- matches onto a big screen live at Wheeler Place throughout the tournament, giving the thousands of football fans in Newcastle the opportunity to experience the highs and lows of the World Cup together.

In a strong show of support from the entire football community, these events will be supported by the Newcastle Jets and Northern NSW Football.

At a special media opportunity this morning to promote the World Cup livesite, 18-year-old midfielder Ben Kantarovski explained that the FIFA World Cup could once again bring the community together, as it did four years ago.

“The whole community gets behind Australia and they all come (to Wheeler Place), the atmosphere-s really good and everyone pushes for the boys to do well,” he said.

Australia’s matches will take place at the following times:

Monday, 14 June – Australia vs Germany 4:30am (AEST)
Sunday, 20 June – Australia vs Ghana 12:00am (AEST)
Thursday, 24 June – Australia vs Serbia 4:30am (AEST)
