Newcastle Jets boss, Ernie Merrick has tonight fronted the Independent Disciplinary & Ethics Committee to appeal a $3,000 fine for allegedly breaching the FFA’s National Code of Conduct.
The sanction was imposed following statements made by Merrick in his post-match media conference after his sides the Hyundai A-League Round 16 match with the Perth Glory.
The committee, comprising of John Marshall SC (Chair), Anthony Lo Surdo SC and Shaun McCarthy have reserved their judgment following the hearing.
Merrick wanted to thank the FFA and the Committee for providing a fair opportunity for his appeal to be heard.
“I’m glad this matter has been brought into an official forum and that I’ve been given the opportunity to defend my position,” Merrick said.
“I’d like to acknowledge the support I’ve received from the Coaches Association throughout this process.
“Darren Kane, Glenn Warry and James Kitching did an excellent job putting my case together and I’d like to thank them for their hard work.”
The FFA will advise once a determination into this matter has been reached.
