Meet the members who joined the Jets in Brisbane

Long time Newcastle Jets members Sharon and Josh Laverty joined the club’s players and staff on tour for their final game of Hyundai A-League season 10 away to Brisbane Roar last week.

Sharon Laverty was the Newcastle Jets member that won the trip for her and a family member or friend to travel with the team to Queensland for the last game of the campaign.

Sharon chose to take her 16-year-old son Josh, who plays football for Swansea, with her and the Jets to the Sunshine State.

Reflecting on the trip north of the border, Sharon said that despite Newcastle going down 2-1 to Roar at Suncorp Stadium, she and Josh had a great experience accompanying the squad.

“We enjoyed being at the Stadium, because we had never been to Suncorp,” she said.

“We also enjoyed being able to attend the team meeting before the game. Josh is a player himself, so it was good to see what the coach had to say pre-game. No one else really gets the opportunity to do that.”

“We had great seats at the Stadium, and the players were excellent. They really made us feel welcome and special, and went out of their way to talk to us.”

“Ben Kennedy gave his gloves to Josh after the game to keep as a souvenir,” she explained.

The trip to Queensland put a brightener on what was an otherwise difficult week for Josh Laverty. Unfortunately, in the horrific storms that hit the Hunter, the L-Plater’s car was washed down a Swansea Street.

Sharon and Josh proved to be great members of the touring party, even offering to help carry team luggage and gear after the club’s kit man Brent Anderson went down with injury!
