House seals gritty victory over Phoenix with late goal

It was a completely different encounter that took place two weeks ago in Newcastle, but our Jets were able to get the job done in the Central Coast picking up the three points again over Wellington.

It was a back-and-forth contest but both sides failed to capitalise on their chances, while both goalkeepers also continued to perform.

With the game looking likely to finish as a scoreless stalemate, substitute Jemma House stepped up late, jumping onto a rebounded shot to score her first A-League Women’s goal. Cass Davis originally had the shot which was saved by the crossbar, but House made no mistakes on the follow up to secure the winner.

See below for the full play-by-play assessment of tonight’s win.

FULL TIME: We take the three points thanks to a late Jemma House goal

90+2′ House tries her luck again for a second, but this time it goes wide.

90′ Four minutes of stoppage time are coming up.

89′ Eddy makes a surging run into the box with the ball at her feet, but right at the final hurdle, she’s stopped in her tracks.

86′ We make multiple substitutions with Sunny Franco and Ash Brodigan coming onto the field.

GOAL!!!!! WEL 0-1 NEW: Jemma House scores her first after following up a Cass Davis shot that collided into the crossbar!

81′ Van Egmond hits the post!!!

80′ Eddy goes so close! The ball is cutback to the edge of the box and she smashes it agonisingly wide.

78′ We’re seemingly about to put the ball into the back of the net when the referee calls a free kick for a foul on the keeper.

73′ A good chance for Phoenix from a free-kick, but our defence scrambles well and rids the danger.

70′ Jemma House now enters the game with Tara Andrews coming to the bench.

67′ Kirsty Fenton returns to the field after missing last week. Johnson comes off.

66′ Van Egmond showcases some fleet feet near the sideline and cuts a perfect pass to Tara Andrews close to goal, but she can’t get her shot away clearly.

64′ Phoenix find their way behind our defence. Boric makes a terrific save and then scramble the ball away despite some claims for a penalty.

63′ A corner kick lands on the head of Harding but her header ends just high over the crossbar.

57′ Back and forth at the moment, but still no real chances for either side.

49′ Andrews again comes so close to scoring. From close range she fires a shot, but it’s directly at Alfeld and not in the back of the net.

48′ A terrific cross by Harding beat all the defenders and even the keeper, but we’ve got no one back there to put it in.

45′ We fire out of the blocks with Andrews almost getting a shot away, but the deflection falls for Van Egmond. She smashes it from outside the box, but it’s held onto by Alfeld.

45′ We’ve kicked off for the second half here in Central Coast.

HALF-TIME: All square and all to play for after the first 45

44′ Wellington now go down our end and strike a fierce shot at Boric. But it doesn’t faze our goalkeeper.

43′ Andrews go soooo close to finding the first of the night but she her head just falls short of the ball as its crossed in.

38′ Dolvik finds her way in behind from a fortuitous through ball, but she puts her shot straight at the keeper.

34′ Brown pings a shot at the Jets keeper, but Boric is up to the ask and holds onto it from close range.

32′ Harding is called off side after winning the back from the Phoenix’s defence. A bit puzzling though as no one passed it to her.

28′ Dolvik earns a free-kick inside the opposition half near the sideline.

26′ Van Egmond takes a shot from the free-kick, but she struggles to curl it enough to be dangerous.

23′ We almost have a chance off a corner, but Lucy Johnson’s shot is blocked.

20′ Phoenix pose a threatening attack as Pritchard cuts it back for a shot, but thankfully, it’s blocked.

18′ Brewer pushes her way up the field and delivers a brilliant cross to head of Harding. But her header ends well wide.

15′ Some nice link up play between Harding and Van Egmond leads to a great cross into the box, but the Phoenix defence nod it away from danger.

12′ Knott takes a shot from distance and it hammers into the hands of Boric in goals.

6′ Van Egmond unleashes a long distanced strike but it fizzles past the upright.

4′ Some dangerous passing at the back almost gifts Wellington an opportunity, but our defence are able to scramble it away.

2′ It doesn’t take Dolvik long to get a strong shot away but it’s well-headed away by Barry.
