We had our chances, but at the end of the night, our Jets weren’t able to find the back of the net despite multiple chances and took just a point from the trip to Perth.
The major opportunity of the match came to Beqa Mikeltadze who managed to latch onto a stray pass at the back from Glory, and did well to beat the goalkeeper. However, the Georgian Gun wasn’t able to capitalise and slipped his shot wide.
The second half was more of the same as our Jets dominated possession and looked for the opener. Daniel Penha and Lucas Mauragis both troubled the goal, but the best chance came in the dying moments as Archie Goodwin found himself free in the box, however some good defending managed to scramble a block and thus our team finished the game a draw.
While our attack struggled, our defence were outstanding all night, particularly that of Jack Duncan who pulled off a tremendous save early in the second half to keep us alive and keep our third consecutive clean sheet.
We’ll look to turn our fortunes around quickly as we travel to Brisbane on Sunday to meet the Roar in yet another must-win game.
90+4′ CHANCE! Goodwin comes close to scoring after a free-kick falls for him, however his shot is blocked in front of goal. Then the follow up falls to Jurman, his lays a dangerous pass across goal looking for anyone to tuck it home, but no one is there.
90+2′ Penha receives a controversial red card after being fouled.
90′ Four minutes of stoppage time to come.
88′ A high cross from Arques falls in a dangerous area, and after a couple of pinballing headers, a half-chance comes to Mikeltadze but he’s unable to showcase enough power from the header.
83′ Arques enters the game late taking off Thurgate.
82′ Thurgate receives a yellow card for chase-back foul.
81′ Thurgate drives into the box looking to get a clean shot away, but instead lays it to Mikeltadze, but his shot is blocked well.
76′ Perth place some dangerous looking crosses into the box, but luckily our defence are up to stop them.
73′ Murnane comes on and Mauragis is off.
72′ Thurgate pops Mikeltadze into a bit of space just ouside the box. He attempts a cross into the box and appeals for a handball, but the referee waves it away.
65‘ O’Doherty comes onto the pitch for Wilson.
64′ Perth try their luck from distance, but Duncan is happy to watch it sail over the crossbar.
63′ CHANCE! An almost identical opportunity for Mauragis as he slices his way through the defence, and opens up the chance to shoot with his non-preferred right foot. Unfortunately, his shot goes over the bar.
57′ Some nice passing sees Mauragis in behind out wide. He attempts to deliver a low cross for an incoming Ingham, but it’s cleared for a corner.
55′ CHANCE! Penha fires away a signature left-footed shot from distance, but it slides past the upright.
51′ Perth goes so, so close to scoring the first. A cross into the box finds a header, but Duncan pulls off a terrific reflex save that cannons in the upright. The ball is then somehow cleared off the line to keep the scores level.
48′ Perth has a chance for a volley outside the box, but Fitzgerald’s shot dribbles well wide of goal.
46′ Second half begins with Boumal making way for Goodwin. Hoffman is also on the pitch for Regan.
45′ Perth look to try and catch us on the break. A half-chance comes to Fitzgerald, but his shot isn’t threatening enough to trouble Duncan.
42′ CHANCE! Mauragis goes oh so close to scoring. Thurgate does well to deliver a dangerous low pass into the box, which finds Ingham. Ingham lays it off for the young defender, but Lucas’ shot just goes high.
41′ Mauragis drives into the box from out wide, and lays off a nice pass to Boumal on the edge of the box. His shot is whipping towards the top corner, but continues on and skies over the bar.
40′ Boumal swings a ball into the box from wide, looking for a couple of teammates who are waiting. But the keeper ends any sniff of a chance by collecting it.
34′ Jurman receives the first yellow card of the game after a sliding challenge.
30′ A corner comes in almost finds Elsey at the back post. He keeps it in and almost threads Mauragis through, but his touch is too heavy.
26′ Glory goes close through Bramwell off a corner, but his header is fired wide of the goal.
22′ CHANCE! A Perth mistake at the back sees Mikeltadze jump in for a golden chance. He knicks the ball away from the keeper, but struggles to find into the open net from the acute angle.
19′ Glory sneak their way down the left wing, and cut a ball back to an attacker on the edge of the box. His shot is luckily blocked and leads to nothing.
18′ Penha delivers a nice cross into the box from a free-kick, but no real solid header is found. Instead it bobbles around, and eventually is collected by the keeper.
18′ So far our side has enjoyed 75% of possession as we look to try and find a way through a dogged Perth defence.
17′ We receive back-to-back corners, but neither trouble the Perth goal.
16′ A beautiful chip by Thurgate finds Ingham in behind the Glory defence. He travels towards goal and attempts a low cross, but it’s knocked away.
13′ Boumal and Mikeltadze combine on the edge of the box as the Georgian lays it off for the Cameroonian to shoot. However, his attempt is blocked.
11′ CHANCE! A nice run down the wing by Mauragis leads to Penha delivering a delicious chip into the box. It finds Ingham at the back post who attempts to cut it across goal looking for Mikeltadze, but the two aren’t on the same page.
8′ Glory try a quick counter-attack and have a half-chance, but the chipped shot is easily caught by Duncan.
7′ Perth venture down the outside of our defence and cut a ball into the box, but it’s easily dealt with by Regan and knocked away from danger.
6′ Mikeltadze takes the free kick and shoots, but it smashes into the wall.
5′ Boumal is fouled just outside the box after he was looking to shoot. Chance to have a crack here.
3′ We start the game with seemingly all the possession with Perth looking to defend with the majority of their team behind the ball.
