The Infrabuild Academy Boys Youth Team were ruthless in front of goal on Saturday night, defeating Bulls FC Academy 4-1 as the race for promotion to the NSW NPL heats up.
The first half was a tight affair, with both teams locked in a ferocious battle to claim a vital three points in what is turning out to be an extremely tight race for promotion into the NPL.
The Jets would break the deadlock just before the half hour mark through Xavier Bertoncello. Oliver Cockle would win the ball inside the Bulls box, before squaring the ball to Bertoncello for the tap-in. The score would remain at 1-0 as the game rolled into half-time.
The boys came out firing in the second half, with Ethan Debono adding yet another spectacular goal to his résumé as he found the top corner after Luca West won the ball back in the midfield.
Oliver Cockle would soon get himself on the scoresheet, as he calmy finished his 1v1 effort to give the Jets a three goal advantage in the 58th minute. This goal marked his tenth of the season for the Youth Team, his 14th across all age groups.
In the last ten minutes, Bulls FC Academy pulled back a goal from the penalty spot. Not to be outdone, the Jets would win their own penalty just five minutes later. Substitute Lucas Johnson would get on the end of a through ball before being brought down by the Bulls custodian. Xavier Bertoncello would step up and calmy dispatch his penalty into the bottom corner, securing the 4-1 victory for the Youth Team as well as bringing his tally for the season into double digits.
Luca West, the Doughheads player of the match, said this on the game,
“It was a good game, we fought real well. The first half was a bit tough, we were just working our way through. We went 1-0 up, and then went into half-time. We worked some things out, and then we just put them to bed.”
In the next game, the U20s defeated Bulls FC 6-4, with Lucas Johnson scoring four goals, along with one each to Roman Canosa and Markus Wolscher.
