Match Report: Lauren Allan double sees off Adelaide

Newcastle Jets have defeated Adelaide United 2-0 thanks to a brace from attacker Lauren Allan.

Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United both came out firing with chances from the two sides straight from kick-off. Adriana Konjarski’s shot in the 3rd minute was blocked from Adelaide’s goalkeeper Annalee Grove. 

The beginning of the game saw a dangerous free kick just outside the box for Adelaide, the shot was going for the top left corner, which was tipped over the bar by Georgina Worth. 

In the 27th minute Adelaide came close to scoring, however, the shot was saved off the line from Jets defender Cannon Clough. 

Georgina Worth received a yellow card in the 35th minute after a collision just outside the box which saw Adelaide defender Emily Hodgson go down temporarily. 

As the second half came closing in, the game was becoming physical with both teams having multiple attacking chances, the half-time score was level at 0-0. 

The Jets began the second half with a chance in the 49th minute. This was a corner by Cass Davis that nearly floated in, however was saved by Annalee Grove. 

In the 53rd minute, Adelaide put the ball in the back of the net which was then ruled offside. This was followed by another near miss from Adelaide and a great save again from Grove.

The Jets followed suit with another corner from Cass Davis that grazed the top of the crossbar with a deflection from Adelaide.

60th minute saw the Jets get the ball over the line with a through ball from Davis with Lauren Allan’s one-on-one with a keeper reaching the back of the net. 

Another great chance in the 70th minute saw Lauren Allan put through a ball to Ashlee Brodigan where her shot grazed just passed the goal.  

A second goal came in the 87th minute from Lauren Allan to seal a 2-0 win for the Jets. 

Ash Wilson’s side will next play Sydney FC on the 7th of January at No.2 Sportsground at 3pm.
