The Jets have suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat against rivals the Central Coast Mariners at Industree Group Stadium.
The game started with high-intensity from both sides, with Sophie Hoban getting in behind early and firing a shot at goal, with Langman getting down well to save. The Mariners fired back with a chance of their own, as Jade Pennock turned outside the box before firing a shot at Krzyzaniak, who was able to push the shot away from goal. Unfortunately, Nunn was able to get on the rebound and tap past Krzyzaniak to give the Mariners an early lead.
The Jets launched forward straight from kickoff, with Josie Allan finding India Breier in the box. Breier was able to get a shot off, but again Langman was there to make the save for the Coast. Just minutes later, Cass Davis had a chance of her own, thundering her shot from distance into the crossbar.
In the 24th minute, Cass Davis sprayed a delightful ball out to Josie Allan on the right wing, who left her defender in the dust before finding an unmarked Copus-Brown in the box. Libby took the shot without taking a touch, firing over the crossbar from close range.
It was the young winger Josie Allan who was able to find an equaliser, as Sophie Hoban danced her way through the Mariners defence, before squaring the ball to Allan, who was able to get her shot over Langman and into the net, 1-1.
The Mariners were soon able to find another goal, as Bianca Galic was able to capitalize on a defensive error to get on the scoresheet. The Mariners were able to take their lead into the halftime interval. Plenty of positives from the Jets after an end to end half. At halftime, Emma Dundas was subbed off for fellow academy product Claire Adams.
After the halftime break, the Mariners came out firing, with Fuller and Pennock both scoring within ten minutes of the restart to give the Mariners a strong 4-1 lead by the 53rd minute. Lara Gooch was brought on just before the 60th minute for India Breier.
The Jets were able to grab a foothold back in the game, with a good 10 minute spell of possession, but they weren’t able to create any solid chances as the Mariners did just enough to keep them out. In the 77th minute, Claudia Cicco was shown a straight red card for a last-defender shirt pull on Annalise Rasmussen, leaving Newcastle with 10 players for the remaining 13 minutes. Josie Allan was withdrawn not long after for Chloe Walandouw. Josie put in an outstanding performance despite the scoreline, consistently beating her defender with skill and pace, as well as adding another stunning goal to her tally.
Milan Hammond had a chance to grab a second for the Jets, as the ball fell to her feet inside the box. Yet again however, Langman was there to deny the Jets a goal. The Coast were able to add a fifth goal in injury time, leaving the score 5-1 at full-time. A day to forget for the A-League Women’s Squad.
