The Newcastle Jets will take to the field tomorrow afternoon, at Darling Street Oval, to play against the NBN State League Select squad for what will be their final fixture in their preseason campaign before the official start to the Hyundai A-League season.
Heading into the match with an undefeated history during the pre-season trials, the Jets are keen to ensure that they come out on top against the leading players from the NBN State League.
The Jets know that this will not be an easy feat with the NBN State League Select squad training hard in preparation for the clash with Coach Damien Smith putting them through their paces over the last two weeks.
“On paper they are a great bunch and it has been a great opportunity to work with them in the lead up to this match” said Damien Smith, Coach of the Leagues the Premiership winners Broadmeadow Magic.
The Select Squad is made up of players from the seven NBN State League Teams, with Smith ensuring that all of the State League coaches agreed with the players chosen to represent the League.
This match is vital for the Jets squad as they prepare for their October 8 match against the Melbourne Heart to start the Hyundai A-League Season 2011/2012.
“This is one of the players last chance to get a decent hit out on the field before the season start, it-s their time to try and secure a starting spot,” said Coach Branko Culina today.
“It is going to be a decent game with the players getting a good opportunity to play against some top local players,” he said.
There will be some well-known surnames lining up for the NBN State League Select Youth squad with the younger brothers of James Virgili and Ben Kantarovski, who will take on the Newcastle Jets Youth team in the undercard at 2.15pm.
The Youth match is going to be a highlight with Luke Remington and Andrew Hoole back in the side after recently representing Australia in the Joeys and 19’s respectively.
