Ljubo’s Injury Worse Than First Diagnosed

The Newcastle Jets today confirmed Ljubo Milicevic-s ankle injury suffered in Monday night-s loss to Sydney FC could sideline him for up to six weeks.

Milicevic suffered ankle ligament damage and an assessment revealed it would be doubtful the club-s star central defender would take to the field again this season.

Jets coach Branko Culina said it was an unfortunate blow as the team prepares to make its run for the Hyundai A-League Finals.

“Ljubo has formed a great partnership with all our defenders this season which has been very hard to crack for opposition teams,” Culina said.

“The players will have to lift in his absence as he is a big part of our structure, a quality player and he will certainly be missed.”

Jets club captain Michael Bridges, who has spent the best part of this season on the sidelines due to injury said he felt for Milicevic.

“Ljubo is a wonderful footballer and been a great contributor for the club.” Bridges said.

“He is such a great competitor and is always a handful for the teams we play.

“Being injured is a part of the game but it-s never easy, so I hope his recovery goes well in preparation for his move overseas, where I-m sure he-ll be a success again.”

Milicevic boasts one of the Hyundai A-League-s most impressive playing records. He has appeared six times for the Socceroos and captained both the Young Socceroos and Olyroos. He also captained FC Thun in the UEFA Champions League competition.
