A 10-man Newcastle Jets Youth outfit has been defeated 1-0 by Perth Glory Youth in Round 3 of the National Youth League at EnergyAustralia Stadium this evening.

Prolific Glory marksman, and Hyundai A-League regular, Eugene Dadi, scored the only goal of the game on his return from injury.

The former Ivory Coast international gave Newcastle number one Robbie Kolak no chance in the 19th minute, nodding home a Reece Vittiglia cross to ensure his side claimed all three points.

Newcastle can perhaps consider themselves unlucky not to have taken a point from the game, having controlled their share of what was an otherwise even contest.

Indeed, it was the Jets who had the first clear cut opportunity to open the scoring when James Virgili burst through on goal. The diminutive midfielder – fresh off the plane from Cyprus where he-d been training with the Qantas Young Socceroos – did well to escape his marker. However, his goal bound shot was smothered by Glory keeper Alex Pearson.

The Jets were made to pay four minutes later when Dadi rose high to put Perth ahead. Vittiglia-s in swinging ball from the right side found the experienced striker who made no mistake from six-yards.

Virgili was proving a handful for the Glory defence and found himself with another opportunity just after the half hour. This time, the exciting young talent saw his shot fly over the bar as Pearson again did well in applying pressure.

Both David Price for Perth and Damian Brosque for Newcastle came close towards the end of the opening 45, however neither could add to the score.

The second stanza saw a flurry of substitutions from both sides, with both Craig Deans and Gareth Naven keen to experiment with their lineups.

The attack minded Jesse Pinto, Adrian Karakolevski and Fabian Iacovelli saw time for Newcastle whilst goal scorer Dadi and Brazilian midfielder Amaral were given early showers.

The Jets were forced into an unwanted change when keeper Kolak was sent off in the 75th minute, however back-up stopper Dion Shaw proved an able replacement in the final stages of the match, spoiling a number Glory chances.

During the four minutes of stoppage time the Jets pressed hard for an equaliser, however were repelled by a Glory backline intent on holding on for their first win of the National Youth League campaign.
