The Newcastle Jets youth team defeated Edgeworth Eagles 4-1 at Jack McLaughlan Oval on Sunday afternoon.
The Jets opened the scoring early in the first half from the penalty spot after some great individual play by James Virgili.
Virgili went on a mazy run through the centre of the Edgeworth defence before driving a low shot from outside the box that proved too hot to handle for the Edgeworth goalkeeper.
NBN State League leading goal scorer Kale Bradbery got to the loose ball first but was brought down before he could fire off a follow up shot.
A penalty was awarded and Bradbery stepped up to the spot to put the Jets ahead 1-0.
The Jets doubled their advantage a short time later when Andrew Hoole took on his man down the right flank.
Hoole played a ball into the box to Virgili, who with his back to goal, pulled-off a sharp turn to elude his defender before firing a powerful shot into the roof of the net to give the Jets a 2-0 lead at the break.
The young Jets were caught napping after half time and allowed Edgeworth to get on the scoreboard when they failed to deal with a long throw.
Chris Wheeler was the first to latch onto the scraps and he cut the Jets- lead in half from close range.
Newcastle restored their two-goal advantage through half time substitute Luke Remington midway through the second half.
The midfielder found himself in space 30 metres from goal before carry the ball forward and unleashing a precise left-foot strike into the top corner.
Bradbery rounded out the impressive victory shortly before the final whistle when he was put through on goal by Dino Fajkovic.
Bradbery rounded the goalkeeper before poking the ball into an empty net to complete his brace and seal the Jets- 4-1 win.
