The Newcastle Jets youth team were defeated 3-2 by Charlestown City Blues in their NBN State League match at Lisle Carr Oval on Sunday afternoon.
Goals either side of halftime saw the Jets go ahead 2-0, but a late burst from Charlestown saw the home side snatch victory with three goals in the final 25 minutes.
Earlier, the Jets had wasted no time hitting the front courtesy of a Luke Remington strike.
Andrew Hoole played in a cross from the right wing, which Charlestown failed to deal with and the ball fell to Remington on the edge of the area.
The midfielder showed excellent technique to direct his first-time left-footed volley into the bottom corner of the net.
Neither team was able to fashion any more clear-cut chances for the remainder of the first half and the score remained 1-0 in favour of the Jets at the break.
Not long after the resumption of play Remington completed his brace with another classy finish.
Remington cut in on his left foot and beat a pair of Charlestown defenders before firing off a low shot that snuck inside the near post to make it 2-0.
Charlestown sent a warning shot a short time later with Jack Duncan-s crossbar being hit from long range and it wasn-t long after that the home team got their first goal back through Kane Goochild to make it 2-1.
Goodchild was again on hand to score the equaliser before Charlestown snatched victory with their third goal minutes before the final whistle sounded.
