Jets secure centre-back Jordan Elsey

Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce the signing of Jordan Elsey for the upcoming two seasons.

The 27-year-old centre-back joins the Club from Adeliade United.

Manager Arthur Papas believes, the 2016 grand final winner will bring plenty of experience and leadership to the Club.

“We welcome Jordan Elsey to the Jets with the knowledge we have been able to secure a very accomplished A-League player with a winning mentality,” Papas said.

“We identified Jordan as someone who possesses the characteristics to play our brand of football and also contribute positively to the leadership and expectations within our environment.”

With more than 120 A-League games to his name, Elsey made his first team debut for Adelaide in 2013.

During this time, Elsey has developed into one of the most reliable defenders in the competition.

With a knack for anticipating situations and ability to read the game, Elsey will add some real starch to the team’s defence.

Elsey said; “I’m looking to pushing myself and challenging myself in a new environment.

“I’ve heard great things about Arthur and believe he will push me as a player to get my football to the next level.

“During my discussions with Arthur, I was impressed with his experience and knowledge.

“Newcastle is a great place, with a wonderful stadium and passionate fanbase. I look forward to getting to know the supporters and filling the stadium.

“I am looking forward to joining my teammates and to work hard to make sure that next season is a positive one.”

This deal sees Elsey contracted to the Jets for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.
