Newcastle Jets midfielder Andrew Hoole says the Jets’ playing group are rallying together ahead of Saturday’s long-haul trip to face Perth Glory at nib Stadium.
The Jets are in the midst of a challenging start to the season with their opening four fixtures of the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League campaign being played away from home due to the resurfacing of Hunter Stadium.
Despite the tough start, which sees the Jets currently sitting in eighth place on the Hyundai A-League ladder, Hoole said the camp is remaining upbeat.
“I think everyone needs to stick together to get the results we need, so it’s important we all stay on the same page and keep working for each other,” Hoole said.
“The team is feeling good and I think mentally everyone is switched on for this weekend’s game.
“Obviously with the first four games being away, it’s a tough start to the season, but we’ve just got to dig in this weekend to put in a good performance and hopefully get the three points.”
The Jets have not won in Perth since 2005, but Hoole said that their less than favourable record in Western Australia would not be a consideration come match day.
“We’re trying not to think too much about our record over there,” Hoole said.
“We’re only four games in and we’ve got plenty of games to go, so hopefully this weekend we can start to turn it around.”
Hoole said the Jets would need to maintain concentration for the full 90 minutes in order secure a positive result in Perth.
“We had a few defensive lapses last week and obviously in the front third we need to be more clinical as well,” Hoole said.
“They’re critical moments in the game, the opening minutes, the last minutes and before and after half-time.
“We need to make sure we clean that up and hopefully this weekend we can rectify that.”
