The Newcastle Jets will play Brisbane Roar in a pre-season trial match in Tamworth on Saturday, September 1.
The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets have locked in a pre-season match against defending A-League Champions Brisbane Roar.
The match will take place in Tamworth on Saturday, September 1 at Scully Park with kick-off at 6.30pm.
The fixture is sure to provide the Jets with a valuable test against high-quality A-League opposition.
It will be the first time in six years that top level Australian football returns to Tamworth. This will be the Jets- second visit to the region to play an A-League pre-season game, while the Roar will be coming to Tamworth for the first time.
?Jets head coach Gary van Egmond said he was looking forward to seeing his squad tested against the back-to-back champions.
“We look forward to a great game against reigning champions Brisbane Roar as we continue our preparation for the 2012/13 season,” he said.
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said it was fantastic to be able to take A-League football to regional areas.
“It is great to be taking an A-League trial game to Tamworth and showcasing our game to our Northern NSW region,” he said.
The game is a very important hit out as the teams gear up for the start of the A-League season in early October.
Business Events Manager at Destination Tamworth Gavin Flanagan said Tamorth was looking forward to hosting the fixture.
“The game is a great opportunity for the people of the Tamworth region to experience Australian football at its best,” he said.
“Both of these clubs love to play an attractive style of football.
“Brisbane have proven themselves to be the best club side in Australia, having enjoyed that amazing run of 36 unbeaten games, a Australian record in any football code.
“Both teams are committed to the development of the game and are excited to be coming to Tamworth.”
Brisbane Roar coach Rado Vidosic said the match was a key fixture for the Roar as they gear up for the new season.
“From my perspective, this is a vital component of our preparations for the Hyundai A-League season. As part of the bigger picture, it is important to help spread the football word throughout regional Australia.”
