Jets in the community

A snapshot of some of the activities the Jets have been taking part in in the community recently.

On Thursday 26 March Mitch Cooper and Brandon Lundy ventured to Broadmeadow PCYC to find out about ‘Street Soccer’. Street Soccer is a community program for homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged people. It promotes social inclusion and personal change for participants by providing support and inclusiveness and team spirit. Last week the Newcastle arm of Street Soccer celebrated their fifth anniversary. Cooper and Lundy attended their weekly training session to share skills, stories, and even some cake!

On Saturday 28 March James Virgili and Scott Neville headed to Speers Point to attend Northern NSW Football’s ‘Festival of Football’. The duo spent time underneath an AFC Asian Cup marquee signing autographs and handing out free balls and caps to Jets fans. Later, the pair posed for photos with junior players – and even some older supporters.

Also on Saturday 28 March members of the Jets’ Ray Baartz Club ventured to training to take in the session and enjoy a scrumptious breakfast. After training was complete, some Ray Baartz Club members took the opportunity to venture onto the pitch for a kick with the boys and to grab the signature of, or snap with, their favourite Jet!
