The Newcastle Jets have appointed former A-League player Karl Dodd as the Club’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.

The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets have appointed former A-League player Karl Dodd as the Club-s Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Dodd, who will complete his Masters degree in Exercise Science this year, played a total 56 matches for Brisbane Roar, Wellington Phoenix and North Queensland Fury during four seasons in the A-League.

After finishing his A-League career, Dodd worked as the Head of High Performance at TSW Pegasus in the Hong Kong First Division.

The 32-year-old most recently spent time at Moreton Bay United in Queensland, where he was given the task of setting up the Club-s High Performance Unit from the junior ranks through to first grade.

“We-re very pleased to have Karl on board,” Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said.

“His football background is a big asset, especially because he understands first-hand the strength and conditioning requirements of A-League players, having been there and done it himself.

“He has a great mentor in Alan McCall, who has worked in the Sports Science departments of Liverpool and Lille FC in France.

“Karl brings a wealth knowledge to the Jets and we-re very confident he-ll be able to get the best out of our squad.”

Dodd said he is pleased to be joining the Jets and is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“I used my time wisely while I was playing to study as well, so I could have the opportunity to move into this type of role after I retired,” Dodd said.

“I-m over the moon to be involved with Newcastle, especially with the number of talented players at the Jets.

“I-m looking forward to getting started and helping the Club realise its potential.”
