Westfield W-League captain, Hayley Crawford, has capped a superb individual season by being named the Jets’ best.
Few players to have donned the Newcastle Jets- colours in recent years can rival the commitment of Westfield W-League skipper Hayley Crawford.
The 26-year-old defender was rewarded for her never-say-die attitude at Monday-s Presentation Evening at EnergyAustralia Stadium by being named Player of the Season for her side.
After playing in every game for the Jets this season, and leading by example throughout the campaign, the inspirational Crawford explained that there was much to look forward to for the Jets- girls next season.
“It-s always an honour to get individual accolades,” she said.
“Next year is obviously very exciting with the Tinkler Sports Group taking over, and I think if we can just get a bit more depth in our squad we-ll be a real finals chance.”
Asked for the highlight of the season, Crawford was, as ever, thinking of the teammates that she has led with such conviction in the 2010/11 season.
“Being captain of the team is always a highlight, so walking out there and getting to lead the team out was great.”
“I also scored a goal in my last game, so as a centre-back that-s always good.”
“Hopefully, if I can go up for a few more corners I can score more. But just as long as the team does well and we make the finals, that-s the main goal,” said Crawford.
