It’s been an impressive start to life as a professional footballer for 18-year-old Jets academy product Claire Adams. Having initially joined the academy at age nine, she has progressed through the ranks, now being a member of the clubs A-League Women’s squad. To date, she has played nine times and scored once for the A-League side, a stoppage time equaliser against Adelaide United.
“I’m happy with my performances so far, hopefully I’ll get more involved in the games and create more chances for the team.”
“A goal of mine was just to get selected every week and get consistent game time and minutes, which is what is happening now. Getting a start by the end of the season is now the main goal.”
Claire Adams has been at the Newcastle Jets since she was nine. She credits her time in the Newcastle Jets Academy as having a massive impact on her development as a player.
“The academy really helped me with my technique and passion, because being able to train 4 days a week at a nice field and with good staff has helped heaps. (The staff) make sure that you love the sport but also do it in the correct way.”
When asked about receiving her first international call-up, Claire described it as,
“A super proud moment. Its always been a dream to be selected for a national squad.”
Claire is not the only Jet to be selected in the most recent Young Matildas squad. Fellow young-gun Josie Allan has also been selected for the camp. Josie Allan has participated in several previous Junior/Young Matildas camps, including the victorious 2022 AFF U18 Women’s Championship.

“It’s very nice (to be called up alongside Josie) because we’ve gone through the Academy together and have worked our way up together. Knowing what she can do on the field already will really help.”
The camp, which is being held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, will run from the 17th-26th of February.
