Dimi Petratos PFA’s Player of the Month

Jets’ midfielder, Dimi Petratos has been awarded Player of the Month for November, courtesy of Professional Footballers Australia (PFA).

Petratos was selected by his fellow professionals following his instrumental role in the Jets’ start to the season; which included wins over the Phoenix, Adelaide and Victory during November.

His selection is the second for the Jets in the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League season, after Roy O’Donovan took out the PFA’s Player of the Month for October.

Voted on by the PFA’s A-League based members, Petratos said it was an honour to receive recognition from his peers.

“I’m loving my football in Newcastle at the moment, Ernie has given me a license to be creative in the front third and I’m really enjoying it,” said Petratos.

“That attacking style of play has seen us score plenty of goals so far this season, I’m just glad to have been able to play a role in that and help the team find early success.

“It’s nice to be recognised like this by the PFA, but my main focus is continuing to build on our strong start to the season. ”

Jets’ CEO, Lawrie McKinna said that the club’s second consecutive Player of the Month was pleasing to see.

“I just think it’s great for Dimi and Roy to get some recognition for how well they’ve been playing,” said McKinna.

“To have had two players receive this award is testimony to the hard work of the coaching staff, the playing squad and everyone involved in turning the club around this season.”

PFA President Alex Wilkinson said Petratos’ recognition was much deserved.

“Dimi has proven to be one of this season’s standout players to date and appears to be thriving since returning to the Hyundai A-League after a stint in the K-League,” said Wilkinson.

“After Newcastle playmaker Ronald Vargas suffered that injury, Dimi has really stepped up into the void and is showing what he is capable of.”
