Deans: We must bounce back

The Newcastle Jets’ Westfield W-League side will host their first game at No.2 Sportsground tomorrow as they look to bounce back strongly against a travelling Canberra United outfit.

The home side had a day to forget in Round 3, going down 5 – 2 to Melbourne City in what was a tough day at the office.

The side will be buoyed by an official fixture at their training base, and will be looking to recapture the form that saw them down the Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC in the opening rounds of the season.

Head Coach, Craig Deans said his side would be looking to give a better account of themselves this weekend.

“I think we’re much better than what we showed last week, it’s really important that we bounce back against Canberra at home,” said Deans.

“We’ve had a good look at what went wrong and where we need to improve, now it’s about making sure we fix it.

“We did quite well putting ourselves into a good position to start the season – we’ve let that slip a little – we just need a be better and more ruthless when given the chance to win games if we want to be successful.”

The Jets have lost Tash Prior (concussion) and Tori Huster (foot) this weekend, as Tara Pender, Tara Andrews and Ash Brodigan join the squad.

“It’s important that we give Tash some time to recuperate, you need to be really careful with any type of head injury and she took a pretty heavy knock (on Sunday),” Deans added.

“We’re just managing Tori’s workload at the moment – it’s not a serious injury – but as a precaution she’ll sit out of this weekend’s game.”
