Daniel Penha issued suspension

Football Australia has handed down a two-game suspension for Jets midfielder Daniel Penha following his red card received in stoppage time in our recent match with Central Coast Mariners.

This means Penha will miss our upcoming fixtures against Macarthur FC and Western United, however will return for the final match of the regular season against the Mariners away from home.

The Match Review Panel determined that Penha committed the offence of “assault on a player (e.g. violent conduct when not challenging for the ball) including an attempted assault on a player”, and thus proposed a sanction of two (2) A-League Men matches, being the minimum sanction for the offence.

Penha has until 2:00pm tomorrow afternoon as to advise whether he wishes to appeal the sanction proposed by the MRP. Football Australia is also investigating a separate incident involving Penha that occurred in the tunnel after the match as a potential breach of the National Code of Conduct and Ethics.

Goalkeeper Coach Chris Bowling has also receives a suspension for a red card that took place in the 85th minute of play from the same game.

The Match Review Panel determined that Bowling had committed the Category 2 offence of “Unsporting conduct toward a Match Official.” No official sanction has been given as of yet, as the Panel has referred the incident to the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for hearing to determine whether, having regard to all the circumstances, the offence is sufficiently proven to warrant the imposition of an additional sanction in addition to the Mandatory Match Suspension.
