Recently recruited Newcastle Jets shot-stopper Glen Moss is part of the New Zealand squad set to take on hosts Russia, European Champions Portugal, and CONCACAF heavyweights Mexico at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup this month.
Moss, who signed a one-season deal with the Jets in May, is one of three custodians in the All Whites’ squad in Russia alongside Stefan Marinovic and Tamati Williams.
Marinovic plays his Club football in Germany with SpVgg Unterhaching, while Williams is contracted to RKC Waalwijk in the Dutch second tier.
Marinovic would appear to be coach Anthony Hudson’s preferred choice to commence the tournament in goal for New Zealand given he has played the full 90 minutes in the All Whites’ pre-tournament friendlies against Northern Ireland in Belfast and Bulgaria in Minsk.
Moss and Williams played 45 minutes each in a training match against Ireland Division 2 side Cabinteely FC in the All Whites’ other pre-tournament hit out, which was staged in Dublin.
Moss is one of three players in the New Zealand squad alongside Shane Smeltz and Chris Wood who is attending his second Confederations Cup.
“Playing on the world stage … there is nothing better than that as a footballer,” Moss told NZFootball.co.nz shortly after the team arrived in Saint Petersburg.
“It (the FIFA Confederations Cup) is something that I have looked forward to for a long time and something that has got me through all those lonely sessions in the off-season.”
Moss will join the Jets for pre-season training once his commitments with the All Whites in Russia come to a close.
