From a coach-s perspective, the greatest threat to an A-League season preparation would normally be injury. In 2011 it has been the weather!

I can-t recall a more frustrating pre season. It seems every week since the Newcastle Jets resumed training has been rain affected but today we went in search of sunshine and dry turf and we found it at Nelson Bay!

It was great to see the boys back on the park after another week of wet weather and a huge thank you to the ground staff who made our session possible.

We head back to Sydney again this week for a pre season hit out against Bonnyrigg at Bonnyrigg White Eagles Sports Club. This is another chance to get the team back playing together to give the players an understanding of each other in action and for myself and the coaching staff to see how they move as a team.

We are now into stage two of the pre season when we begin focussing on certain plays and player combinations. The opportunity to trial the work we have been doing at training will give us another indication of how we are tracking at this point.

Everyone is on board and back from illness or injury respectively with Jobe Wheelhouse, Jason Culina and Nikolai Topor-Stanley all fit and well which is extremely encouraging.

Meanwhile, I would like to wish Ben Kantarovski all the best as he joins the Young Socceroos for their World Cup campaign which starts on the 31st of July.

Ben is currently preparing in the US and when I last spoke to him he had pulled up well from their match against England and is thoroughly enjoying the experience.

On behalf of the Newcastle Jets, we send our warmest wishes to Ben.

I-ll update you again on Thursday after our next trial but just a reminder if any Jets supporters are in Sydney and would like to see their team in action, we-ll be at Bonnyrigg White Eagles Sports Club from 7pm, weather permitting.

Hope to see you there.
