The match sparked into life in the 23rd minute when a long ball by Alex Huynh found Melina Ayres in space. Mariners goalkeeper Courtney Newbon was forced into a smart double save.
The Jets dominated possession and limited the home side to only a couple of chances as the first half drew to a close.
The second half began with the Jets creating the first chance when Melina Ayres played in Mindy Barbieri who had her shot saved on the edge of the six-yard box by Newbon.
The Mariners went close to opening the scoring when a free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box was narrowly missed by everyone in the 69th minute.
The Jets persistence paid off when a Lara Gooch burst of speed down the sideline paid dividends when her cross was met in the middle by Melina Ayres who prodded home to make it 1-0 to the Jets.
The home side tried to find an equaliser and almost did when Jets defender Natasha Prior cleared off the line in the 90th minute.
The Jets held firm late on as Gary van Egmond’s side started the 23/24 season in perfect fashion.
