A Sarina Bolden strike and an own goal has seen the Newcastle Jets jump into the top four temporarily in the Liberty A-League after a 2-1 win against Brisbane Roar at Leichhardt Oval.
Mindy Barbieri came inches away from opening the scoring in the 20th minute when her shot from just outside the 18-yard box smashed the crossbar and bounced out.
The Jets started the second half brightly as Lauren Allan headed just wide from a corner in the 46th minute.
Brisbane came close to opening the scoring when Tameka Yallop had space in the box however the Roar midfielder was denied by a brilliant save from Jets goalkeeper Isobel Nino.
Brisbane were reduced to 10 when Holly McQueen received her marching orders after denying Lorena Baumann a goal-scoring opportunity.
The Jets did find the opening goal when a clever back heel on the edge of the box from Cassidy Davis found Sarina Bolden who cooly tucked her shot away to make it 1-0 after 63 minutes.
Brisbane equalised almost immediately when Mia Corbin hit a well-timed shot on the edge of the box to draw the Roar level.
The Jets kept up the attacking pressure and took the lead when a corner from Mindy Barbieri was headed into her own net by Yallop to make it 2-1 in the 76th minute.
The Jets held firm and sealed a 2-1 win that temporarily puts them into the top four.
