The Newcastle Jets take on Sydney FC this Saturday the 7th of January home at No.2 Sportsground, kicking off at 3pm.
The Jets look to begin the new year similarly to how they saw off 2022. The New Year’s Eve clash between the Jets and Adelaide saw the home side take the three points with a 2-0 win thanks to Lauren Allan’s two goals.
Newcastle returns home this week against Sydney FC who are currently holding 2nd place on the Liberty A-League ladder. This will be the first time for the 2022/2023 season that the two sides meet, proving to be a great contest for both teams.
As Sarah Griffith looks to return to the field this week, her strong start to the season proves to create a good battle for Sydney’s defence including centre back, Natalie Tobin. Griffith has scored 4 goals in the 6 games she has played, one being a hat trick in round 2 against Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Jets defence will have a good battle on their hands with Sydney attackers Princess Ibini and Cortnee Vine who will be using their strength and experience on attacking runs. Tessa Tamplin is a notable inclusion and could start the match to help combat the threat of Vine and Ibini from up top.
Sydney have only lost one game this season, against Adelaide United in Round 1, a 1-0 defeat. Newcastle will look to cease Sydney’s winning run and continue a winning streak of their own.
Jets fans can watch the match at No.2 Sportsground this Saturday at 3pm, with gates opening at 2pm. Season members can use their ticket to enter the game. Those wishing to purchase tickets can do so here. The game can also be watched live on Paramount+ and 10 Bold.
