ALW Match Preview: Newcastle Jets v Sydney FC

The Newcastle Jets will play their final match of the season at Allianz Stadium on Saturday afternoon against Sydney FC.

The Jets head into the final round sitting in 10th position on the ladder, two points in front of bottom-placed Wellington Phoenix.

Gary van Egmond’s side will be hoping to sign off from the 2022/23 season with a win as they look to spoil Sydney FC’s chances of lifting the Premiers’ Plate.

In the previous meeting between the two sides, Sydney FC claimed a 4-2 win over the Jets after scoring three goals inside the opening 10 minutes.

One of the goal scorers for the day was Tara Andrews who could feature in what will be her final match as a Newcastle Jet. Should Andrews take to the field on Saturday afternoon, she will become the Jets’ all-time record appearance holder on 131 matches, surpassing Gema Simon who sits on 130.

Alongside Claire Coelho, defender Teigen Allen has also announced that she will be retiring at the end of the season. Teigen has amassed over 127 first grade matches in the A-League and has represented the Matildas 40 times.
