Academy: Boys win three and girls win four

Thumbnail

The young boys enjoyed the bye and the senior boys revelled in an NPL Northern NSW washout weekend, while it was a mixed bag for our girls at home!

Goals were going cheap, there were big wins all over the place, and a few sides have edged closer to the top of their respective ladders!

Here is this weekend’s Academy wrap.

Girls

From the five games which our Academy girls played over weekend, the sides took 12 of a possible 15 points on offer.

It was the U/13s who got the day off to the best possible start with a big 3-1 win over Sydney Olympic U/14s.

The next three age groups kept clean sheets and took home all three points – the U/14s won 3-0, the U/15s 2-0, and the U/17s managed a 3-0 victory.

Victory helped the U/14s retain their spot in second on the U/15s ladder, still just two points off Manly United who are in first.

Three points also saw the U/17s keep their spot in sixth on the Reserves ladder, but other results mean they’re now equal on points with fourth spot.

Unfortunately, the U/19s side couldn’t continue the winning ways of their counterparts in the final fixture of the afternoon.

They went down 5-0 to Sydney Olympic’s first-grade side.

Boys

With our U/12s through U/15s boys enjoying the bye weekend in the NPL Northern NSW Youth competition, the attention turned to our seniors.

It was rescheduled Round 4 fixtures, and the U/16s boys got off to a flying start by cruising to a massive 11-1 victory over Valentine Phoenix U/18s.

Sam Haren was the pick of the bunch in that fixture, bagging five of the side’s 11 goals.

Keen to follow in their footsteps were the U/18s, who grabbed a 5-0 win over their Phoenix U/20s counterparts to shoot to the top of the table.

Labinot Haliti’s U/20s boys went down 2-0 early on in the first grade fixture against Valentine – only to come back with three goals in the final 20 minutes to claim a famous 3-2 victory.
