The first win of the season in the NPL NSW Women’s first grade competition was the highlight of a big weekend of Academy football for the Newcastle Jets.

The boys played seven games in a day against Edgeworth Eagles in the NPL Northern NSW and went the whole day without losing a single match while the girls faced off against the North Shore Mariners in the NPL NSW Women’s.

Here’s this week’s academy wrap.

The U/13s girls weren’t able to grab a positive result in the first fixture of the day against North Shore Mariners, going down 1-0 in a tight affair.

However, things were much different in the second game of the day with the young U/14s Jets running out massive 7-1 victors in the U/15s division.

The U/15s struggled against the Mariners in the U/17s competition and went down 4-2, while goals from Alannah Russell and Te Reremoana Walker earned the U/17s Jets a 2-0 win in the Reserves competition.

A brace from Renee Pountney earned the U/19 Jets a first win of the season in First Grade, as they battled hard and beat out North Shore Mariners 3-2.

Dean Mayer’s U/12 boys continued their fantastic start to the season with a big 7-0 win over Edgeworth in the U/13s on Saturday morning, with Will Dobson and Lewis Houston each bagging two goals.

The U/13s team kept the good times rolling with a 5-0 win which pushed them back into the U/14s competition top four, while the U/14s came back from 1-0 down at half-time to beat out the Edgeworth Eagles U/15s side 4-1.

It was a straightforward affair for the U/15s, who retained their spot atop the NPL Northern NSW U/16s ladder courtesy of a 4-0 win.

As seniors football began in the afternoon, the U/16s continued the good work of the juniors with a 5-2 victory over Edgeworth in the U/18s division.

Playing in the U/20s competition, the U/18s scored in the 79th minute to claw back a 1-1 draw with Edgeworth while the Jets Youth drew 2-2 with Damian Zane’s side in the first grade fixture.

The boys will face Valentine in the NPL Northern NSW Senior competition next weekend while the Youth will take on Weston.

In the NPL NSW Women’s, the Jets travel south to take on Illawarra Stingrays next Sunday.
