A-League: Neill and Mauragis boost squad

Newcastle Jets can confirm two additions to it’s Hyundai A-League squad, with the signing of Mickey Neill from the NPL NSW and promotion of Lucas Mauragis from the Club’s Youth Team.

A left-sided defender, Mickey Neill arrives in Newcastle on a short-term deal until the end of the current season with ample Hyundai A-League experience.

The 25-year-old came through the system at the Central Coast Mariners, playing 46 games at the club before spending the past three seasons playing in the NPL NSW.

Most recently, he played for Rockdale City Suns.

Mauragis, also a left-sided player, has signed a scholarship deal until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2020/21 season.

The 18-year-old initially joined the Club from Canberra United, playing for the Jets Youth Team in the Foxtel Y-League 2019/20 season.

Head Coach, Carl Robinson was pleased to have added to his squad for the remaining four games of the season, and beyond.

“Mickey is a player with very strong physical attributes and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do,” Robinson said.

“I like giving opportunities to people who have earnt that right, and Mickey has been a standout player in the NPL.

“Lucas is another one who has earned his opportunity through both good performances in the Youth Team and at training over a long period of time.

“He’s a determined and committed character, he’s a handy young player and he’s a good addition to our squad.”

Neill will wear the number 2 for the remainder of the season. Mauragis will wear 12.
