There were goals aplenty on Saturday night at McDonald Jones Stadium, with back of the net disturbed four times in the second-half alone.
Ultimately, it was the Jets who came out on top of the five-goal thriller to make it three from three over the Western Sydney Wanderers this season.
Newcastle were under the pump in the opening minutes, with wave upon wave of Wanderers attacks pushing the home defence back.
They actually had the ball in the back of the net with six minutes played through Oriol Riera, but his effort from close range was ruled offside.
Roy O’Donovan had a chance on the counter-attack at the other end when Johnny Koutroumbis threaded the needle, however at the tight angle he could only find the side netting.
The Irishman put a fantastic ball across the face from Joey Champness on the wide, in what was the best chance at a go-ahead goal with half an hour gone.
With the minutes ticking down towards half-time, the Wanderers found a goal which their play had perhaps deserved.
A free kick, whipped in by Alexander Baumjohan was met by the head of Rashid Mahazi and the Wanderers were ahead.
The second half saw Kaine Sheppard replace Ronald Vargas, who was forced off with an ankle injury and the Englishman was immediately putting himself about.
It was another man from Great Britain who would pull the Jets level though – Irishman, Roy O’Donovan, with a superbly measured strike from inside the area for his ninth of the season.
The wind was well and truly back in the Newcastle sails, the Jets looked to stream forward and it didn’t take long for a second goal to find the back of the net.
Dimi Petratos, on his 50th appearance in Newcastle Jets colours, has something of a reputation for special goals and he was well and truly prepared to live up to the occasion.
He stepped up for the corner on the right foot for which he’s known so well, curling a ball so wicked that Vedran Janjetovic had no choice but to attempt to punch clear.
It wasn’t punched anywhere good for the Wanderers though – into the side netting, and Dimi had another wonder goal to his name and the Jets the lead.
Things were looking good for the Jets, but another sumptuous strike brought them back down to Earth.
This time, it was at the other end with Keanu Baccus putting his foot through a shot which Glen Moss evidently thought was going straight over the top.
It didn’t, though – striking the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net.
The home crowd was behind the boys, and it was one local lad who pulled the Jets ahead once again.
Angus Thurgate, on the pitch for less than 15 minutes, was first to a loose ball just outside the area – took a touch, and curled his first ever Hyundai A-League goal into the far post.
