There are now just ten sleeps to go until the Newcastle Jets tackle Adelaide United in round 1 of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 Season at Hunter Stadium.
Ahead of the first game of the new campaign here’s a summary of our how our pre-season fixtures have panned out, starting all the way back in late July in Tuggerah.
The top goalscorer of the Club’s pre-season schedule was Andrew Hoole. Hoole hit the back of the net an impressive six (6) times, and hopefully the Newcastle born and bred flyer can take that great form into season 12 of the Hyundai A-League.
Match 1 vs. Central Coast Mariners FC (Tuggerah, Australia)
Date: Wednesday 27 July 2016

Match 2 vs. Central Coast Mariners FC (Tamworth, Australia)
Date: Saturday 13 August 2016
Result: 2-1 loss
Summary: Scully Park was the venue for the Jets’ second pre-season match of 2016, and despite going ahead via a deft Devante Clut finish in the first 45, Newcastle gave up the lead in the game despite generally dominating. Some sloppy defending allowed Blake Powell to equalise, while Connor Pain scored the winner for Central Coast.
Match 3 vs. Liaoning Whowin FC (Huludao, China)

Result: 3-2 win
Summary: Newcastle Jets began the Club’s 2016 tour of China in perfect fashion in late August, defeating Liaoning Whowin FC from the Chinese Super League 3-2 in Huludao. All five goals in the match came in the second stanza, with Devante Clut opening the scoring before Liaoning hit back. An Andrew Hoole penalty made the score 2-1, and once again Liaoning levelled. But a great Hoole finish from outside the area secured a great win for the Jets in front of 19,019 supporters.

Date: Friday 2 September 2016
Result: 4-3 win
Summary: Goals to Andrew Hoole, Morten Nordstrand, Andrew Nabbout and Jason Hoffman secured another win for the Jets in China. Kitchee proved to be stern opposition, scoring three of their own, however Hoffman’s header in added time at the end of the second stanza ensured the Jets would depart China with a perfect record.
