Renee Cartwright will now be available for the Jets’ W-League game this Saturday.
The Newcastle Jets radio partner 105.3 NEWFM weren-t about to let the sides leading goal scorer miss out on this weekend-s Sydney FC clash when they heard Renee Cartwright was due to be in Coffs Harbour for the Oztag Australian Championships and likely to be unavailable for Saturday-s game.
In an interview on breakfast radio this morning with Jets Captain Hayley Crawford, the NEWFM breakfast team quickly pulled out all stops to organise a flight for Cartwright to Sydney for the vital clash.
“It-s the least we could do,” Station Manager Guy Ashford said, “The breakfast guys left me little option calling me live on air with Hayley on the line and asking me if we could do it and I put it back on them to drive her to Coffs in the NEWFM Cruiser but they wouldn-t be in it.”
“We-ve been happy to support the team again this season and there was no way we were going to let the girls go up against that mob down the freeway with anything less than the best team they could put on the park,” Ashford said.
Meanwhile Cartwright was ecstatic at the opportunity to now play against Sydney FC after originally advising Jets coaching staff of her unavailability for the weekends match.
“I couldn-t believe it when they (NEWFM) rang,” she said, continuing “They just said that the station had heard of my situation and they wanted me to play, so they had secured flights that would see me play for the Jets on Saturday as well as fulfill most of my Oztag commitments in Coffs Harbour.”
Cartwright will juggle her sporting commitments this week, training with the Jets prior to travelling to Coffs Harbour for the Oztag Australian Championships which start Friday, flying from Coffs Harbour to Sydney on Saturday morning for the Jets match against Sydney FC, then departing Sydney on Sunday morning to return to Coffs Harbour for the Oztag finals.
