Newcastle Jets Youth and Gold Coast United Youth will do battle at Adamstown Oval on Friday, 13 November.
Tomorrow evening-s National Youth League (NYL) round 10 match between the Newcastle Jets and Gold Coast United is shaping as a thrilling clash between the two in-form teams of the competition.
The Jets are coming off two successive victories against Brisbane Roar and AIS, whilst Gold Coast have gone through the 2009/10 season undefeated thus far, and overcame league-leaders Sydney FC 2-0 last week.
Jets- NYL coach Craig Deans said he is looking for a confident display from his side given their recent impressive performances.
“It-s obviously good that we-ve won the two games in a row and the boys are quite happy with themselves and have been talking about that fact at training, so our aim is to make it three and push on from there.”
“Gold Coast haven-t lost a game all season, so on paper they-re arguably the best and most consistent team, so we need to maintain that same level of effort and concentration that we-ve had in the past two weeks.”
“It will definitely be a good test for our young boys to see where they-re at,” he explained.
Though the young Jets outfit will line-up without Qantas Young Socceroos James Virgili and Robbie Kolak, the recent performances of players such as Scott Balderson, Damian Brosque, Taylor Regan and Mirjan Pavlovic have certainly caught the eye.
And, in a move that is sure to elevate this already mouth-watering encounter, a number of players from the Hyundai A-League will also be on display, with Australia-s elite football competition going on a week-long hiatus due to the FIFA International Break.
“I think Gold Coast, based on what they-ve done in the past few weeks, will bring a few A-League players with them, and from our point of view we-ll probably have the ones that we-ve been playing regularly like Brodie Mooy and Jason Naidovski, along with probably 2 or 3 others,” said Deans.
Tomorrow evening-s game will be a memorable occasion on a number of fronts with the match being the first between the two clubs in the NYL, and also being the first NYL match at the historic Adamstown Oval this season.
“I think it-ll be great if we can get as many supporters as possible along to the game,” Deans said. “I know the boys would really appreciate it. They enjoyed it last weekend when there was a crowd at EnergyAustralia Stadium by the end of the game and they made the most of the atmosphere at the bigger stadium, so if we can get a few hundred people to Adamstown on Friday that would be fantastic for the team.”
Entry into Adamstown Oval tomorrow evening is free with gates opening at 4:30pm.
