The Westfield W-League Newcastle Jets took part in the 2009 launch of the Kmart Wishing Tree at Westfield Kotara yesterday.

The Kmart Wishing Tree is Australia-s largest Christmas gift appeal, with trees located in every Kmart store across Australia and New Zealand.

This year the appeal joins with the Salvation Army to provide gifts to underprivileged children, while 2009 marks the 22nd year of the appeal and the Jets were pleased to be part of the official launch, where skipper, Hayley Crawford placed the first gift of 2009 under the Kmart Kotara Wishing Tree.

Crawford then joined a representative from the Salvation Army to share the cutting of the celebratory cake before a special guest appearance by Santa and the meet and greet autograph session by Jets team members.

After raising over 1800 gifts in 2008, the team at Kmart Kotara have set a target of 2000 gifts for this year. If you are interested in showing your support, the Wishing Tree is located outside Kmart on Level 2, Westfield Kotara.
