Junior Jets defeat Wanderers youth

The junior Jets emerged 2-1 victors from their round 16 Foxtel National Youth League clash against Western Sydney Wanderers Youth at Magic Park in Broadmeadow on Sunday.

James Pascoe’s side took an early lead in the contest when defender Allan Welsh powered home a header in just the third minute of play direct from a corner.

Jets Youth showed plenty of attacking enterprise in the first 45, and managed to extend their lead just before the break when one of Welsh’s defensive partners, Caio De Godoy, slammed home the second for the Novocastrians.

The boys from Western Sydney got themselves back in the game 13 minutes from full time when pacey attacker Richard Darko stormed in on goal and finished confidently.

However Darko’s effort proved to be too little, too late for Trevor Morgan’s team as Pascoe’s charges claimed their seventh win of the campaign.

With two rounds remaining in the Foxtel National Youth League 2014/15 season, the junior Jets currently sit in seventh place on 22 competition points.

However, just three points separate Newcastle and fourth placed Sydney FC, so it’s possible the side could end the campaign entrenched in the top half of the ladder.

The Club’s remaining Foxtel National Youth League fixtures will be played against Sydney FC Youth (away) and Melbourne City Youth (home) on Sunday 22 February and Sunday 1 March respectively.
