A rookie attacker with an eye for goal is one of 16 options Newcastle Jets Head Coach Phil Stubbins has named for Saturday’s #F3Derby against Central Coast Mariners at Hunter Stadium.
Youth forward Braedyn Crowley – who made his Hyundai A-League debut for the club against Western Sydney Wanderers in round 1 – may pit wits with Phil Moss’s Mariners at the weekend.
Ben Kantarovski and Andrew Hoole are suspended for the round 19 match against the yellow and navy, and while the team will no doubt miss their impact, their absences from the game day squad open opportunities for players keen to impress against the club’s regional rivals.
The Jets were defeated 1-0 by Central Coast in round 1 this campaign. Mitchell Duke – now with Shimizu S-Pulse in Japan – scored in time added on to win the game for his former side that day.
Jets and Mariners met again in round 8 in late November. On that occasion Ecuadorian Edson Montano gave the Novocastrians the lead early in the second stanza before Hungarian Richard Vernes – who is out for the season with an arm injury – levelled proceedings for the Coast.
