It’s been a rollercoaster of a journey for our Jets Men this season and it’s hard to believe there’s only three games left of our Isuzu UTE A-League Season.
As we look to wrap up what’s been a big year for progression, we’ve dived into the statistics to see who may finish atop of some of the leaderboards at the end of the regular season.
Here are the top five leaders in some of our key areas:
GOALS SCORED
Beka Mikeltadze, 12, Angus Thurgate, Valentino Yuel, 5, Daniel Penha, Olivier Boumal, 4
It’s no surprise who leads in this department as our Georgian Gun is currently locked in a battle with Socceroo Jamie Maclaren for the league’s golden boot. Mikeltadze sits on 12 at the moment, two behind Maclaren, however there’s been multiple other players in our side who have chipped in with vital goals too throughout the season so far.
Thurgate and Yuel have been scored crucial goals this season and sit in equal-second, while Penha and Boumal are two other names who have been important goalscorers.
Mikeltadze has been able to average a goal every 154 minutes of play, and Yuel has also been efficient, scoring every 179 minutes. Special mention should also be made to Archie Goodwin who’s scored two goals in 150 minutes of football.
ASSISTS MADE
Daniel Penha, 11, Valentino Yuel, 3, Beka Mikeltadze, Jason Hoffman, Dylan Murnane, 2
Again, this one is a no-brainer for those who have been following along with our team. Our brilliant Brazilian has been exceptional with the ball at his feet this season and currently leads the competition in assists, securing the most in a single season since Leroy George in 2017/18, and the first Jet to hit double digits.
Lightning winger Yuel has also been effective in creating goals, while striker Mikeltadze and wingbacks Hoffman and Murnane have found passes through the defence as well.
When discussing key passes, Penha has pulled of 60 so far, Mikeltadze has 32, and Yuel and Thurgate have 26.
SUCCESSFUL PASSES (PER GAME)
Jordan Elsey, 61, Matt Jurman, 55, Angus Thurgate, 43, Mario Arques, 41, Jason Hoffman, 38
When looking at those who get their foot on the ball and successfully make passes, our two centre-halves lead the way. Elsey is in the top five in the competition with a success rate of 87%, while Jurman is in the top ten at a rate of 86% success.
Two of our industrious midfielders Angus Thurgate and Mario Arques also feature in our top five with Thurgate pulling off 85% of his passes, and Arques with 89%.
As a team, we sit just behind Melbourne City in passes made per game with 445.
TACKLES MADE
Angus Thurgate, 23, Valentino Yuel, Dane Ingham, 22, Daniel Penha, 19, Jason Hoffman, 18
Moving into the realms of the defensive world, Thurgate leads our team in making challenges and successfully winning the ball, however Ingham and Yuel are also up there as some of our best tacklers with over a 60% success rate.
Penha has also proved effective in this area as too has Hoffman. Interestingly, our most efficient tackler is Savvas Siatravanis with a success rate of 78%.
INTERCEPTIONS
Jordan Elsey, 31, Matt Jurman, 29, Angus Thurgate, 25, Jason Hoffman, 22, Daniel Penha, 17
Another area that highlights strong defence is the interceptions which our two centre-halves also lead.
Joining Elsey and Jurman near the top is Thurgate with his terrific work in the midfield, while Hoffman has also proved strong out wide and Penha in behind the striker.
MOST FOULED
Beka Mikeltadze, Daniel Penha, 43, Olivier Boumal, 40, Savvas Siatravanis, 29, Angus Thurgate, 27
It’s probably not surprising that the majority of our attackers make up the most fouled players in the Jets team, however Mikeltadze, Penha and Boumal are also included in the top eight for the league.
While not nearly as much as the others, Siatravanis and Thurgate are also two players who are often fouled in a Jets side that receives more fouls than any other team in the competition.
MOST MINUTES

The player who’s featured the most this season is our vice-skipper, as Elsey has played almost 96% of our team’s total minutes.
Close behind are attackers Mikeltadze and Penha who have both played in over 88% of our minutes, followed by goalkeeper Duncan and midfield engine Thurgate who have both missed chunks of time due to injury.
Other than the goalkeepers, Jordan Elsey is also the only player who is yet to be substituted in a game this season and has completed the full 90 minutes in each game he has played.
