Max Burgess

Max Burgess first signed for the Jets as an injury replacement during the 2014/15 A-League season, coming off of the bench in the last five games of the season. Following this, Max had a successful career in the A-League, playing just short of 100 games for Sydney FC, as well as spending a season with Wellington and two with Western United. Burgess also had a short stint in Portugal, playing for União da Madeira. He signed on for his second stint with the Jets ahead of the 25/26 season. Known throughout his career as a creative attacking midfielder or wide player, Max has shown his versatility, putting in several impressive performances at the base of midfield.

2014/15 Season:

After just one appearance for Sydney FC in the 2014/15 season, Max signed for the Club as an injury replacement, playing off of the bench in the last five games of the season.

2025/26 Season:

Max returned to Newcastle ahead of the 2025/26 season, getting an assist on his second debut against Adelaide United in the Australia Cup. He scored his first goal for the club in the Australia Cup quarter-finals, helping the team to a 3-0 win over Macarthur FC. Max contributed either a goal or assist in all five Australia Cup games en-route to the Club winning just their second piece of silverware. This includes the equalising goal in the final, as Max went on to win the Mark Viduka Medal for his impressive performance. Midway through the season, Head Coach Mark Milligan moved Max into a deeper midfield role, which he excelled in as he played a key role in the clubs record eight consecutive wins.
