A highly technical winger, Kota arrived at the Jets in January 2025 with a high pedigree. The twice-capped Japanese international instantly became a fan favourite, impressing fans with his delivery from open play and set pieces. In 12 appearances in the 24/25 season, he scored twice and assisted four times. Before joining Newcastle, he played over 200 times for Yokahama F Marinos, winning the 2022 J1 League and being named in the best XI.
