Joe Champness

A beneficiary of the Ledman Group’s Portuguese connections, Joey Champness’ time on loan with second division club Academia de Coimbra has helped kick-start his career. With only one year in the senior squad under his belt to date, Champness has proved himself an explosive impact player off the bench with the ability to score crucial goals for the Jets. The highlight of his time so far with the Newcastle Jets was a debut goal against our F3 Derby rivals Central Coast Mariners in round one of the 2017/18 season, as well as a nomination for the NAB’s Young Footballer of the Year in 2017/18. Champness made his debut for the Jets on 7 October 2017, coming off the bench and scoring the final goal in a 5-1 demolition of the Central Coast Mariners.
