The Newcastle Jets Youth Team will fly to Brisbane this weekend to take on Queensland Roar Youth Team at Perry Park this Sunday.
The National Youth League (NYL) competition continues this weekend despite the FIFA Match Day break, and the Newcastle Jets Youth Team will take on Queensland Roar Youth Team at Perry Park on Sunday.
The young Jets began their NYL campaign with a 0-0 draw against Adelaide United Youth Team in the opening round before having a bye in Round 2. Meanwhile, Queensland-s youth started with a history making first win over the Melbourne Victory Youth Team, before succumbing to the Sydney FC Youth Team 2-1 last weekend at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Coming into the mix this week for the Jets youth will be goalkeeper Ben Kennedy, Antun Kovacic, and Kaz Patafta, who scored his first goal for the senior squad in last Monday-s 2-2 draw against Wellington Phoenix. The three will see valuable game during the Hyundai A-League-s weekend off.
Jets Youth Team coach Craig Deans believes that Sunday-s game against the Roar will be a big test for his young team.
“This will be our second game away for the season, and last week was a bye, so it-s a tough start for the boys,” he said. “On the plus side, it prepares the team for the challenges that come with professional football.”
“Queensland seem a good side, they-ve got plenty of talented young players up there, and obviously everyone saw how well young Matt Mundy did in their senior team last week.”
“Our boys just need to focus on our game, stay patient, and hopefully we-ll get something out of the game, as we did away in Adelaide,” Deans said.
